Watercolor Techniques


Nationally recognized botanical artist and teacher Laura Vogel returns to the Sawtooth Botanical Garden for four intimate, 1-day workshops August 19 and 22-24. Check our calendar for detailed information about each workshop.

Watercolor Techniques will be held Saturday, August 19.  Suitable for both beginners and those who wish to refine their techniques, it will be held at the Garden from 10 AM – 4 PM.  Then perhaps you’d like to dive into 3 subjects in 3 days during the Watercolor Explorations series Tuesday-Thursday, August 22, 23 and 24.  Enjoy one, two, three or all four days of hands on watercolor workshops and learn botanical watercolor techniques.

Cost: Techniques: $90 for SBG member/$100 nonmember. Preregistration required; payment reserves your spot.

Instructor: Laura Vogel is an exceptional botanical artist and widely recognized for her ability to teach students of all abilities.  She has been an instructor for the New York Botanical Garden’s Botanical Art & Illustration Program for 21 years.

Ms Vogel received her BA with a major in painting and minor in ceramics. Her interest in plants and art led her to in depth studies in botany at William Paterson University and plant illustration at the New York Botanical Garden. She worked as a freelance botanical illustrator for Dr. Noel Holmgren at NYBG, illustrating over 1300 new drawings for The Illustrated Companion to Gleason & Cronquist’s Vascular Plants of the Northeastern United States and Adjacent Canada. In 1998, the Illustrated Companion was awarded Top Bioscience Book of the Year by the Association of American Publishers.
