The 14th annual Bug Zoo starts with a buzz with the enormously popular Bug Zoo Festival on Saturday, April 21, 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.  The Zoo enjoys a 2 week run, from April 21- May 3. Closed on Sundays.  This year’s theme is the Web of Life.

You’ll see old favorites like tarantulas, chameleons, geckos and snakes and more! Get up close and personal with some of Bug Zoo’s famous creatures, make critter crafts, do a bug scavenger hunt, play buggy games and more! Bring the kids and explore engaging displays while learning about fun, weird and sometimes incredibly helpful creepy crawlers. This year’s Bug Zoo theme TBD.

Cost:  Adults – $5.00; Children 5-18 – $3.00; Children 4 and under – FREE!

Saturday, April 21:  Bug Zoo Festival

11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.  Get up close and personal with some of Bug Zoo’s insects and their amazing adaptations and other famous creatures, make critter crafts, do a bug scavenger hunt, play buggy games and more!  General bug viewing and self-guided activities. Cost:  Adults – $5.00; Children 5-18 – $3; Children 4 and under – FREE!

Monday-Friday, April 23-27:  Scheduled School Field Trips & Public Viewing

9:00-3:00 p.m.  Experience Bug Zoo! with one of our specially trained Interpretive Educators.  This year’s theme is the Web of Life.  Act now to reserve your time slot as they fill fast! Call (208) 726-9358. Cost: Free!

3:00 -5:00 p.m.  We recommend public viewing during these hours.

Saturday, April 28:  Bug Zoo U (University) and Bugs After Hours

11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.  Bug Zoo U is a terrific opportunity for adults and kids to go deep, learning more about these fascinating critters from storytellers, critter owners, beekeepers and more!  Stay tuned! Schedule of activities to be determined

Cost:  Adults – $5.00; Children 5-18 – $3; Children 4 and under – FREE!

6:00 – 8:30 PM. Bugs After Hours is a special opportunity for 15 lucky kids ages 4-8 years old.  Drop off your kids and have a night out!  Your child will not bug you!  Instead he or she will play buggy games, do buggy activities, make buggy treats and get one on one with some of Bug Zoos coolest critters.

Cost: $20 per child

Saturday, April 28: Bugs After Hours (NEW ADDITION!)

6:00 – 8:45 p.m. Got kids who love bugs?  Just drop them off at the Garden and have a night out.  We’ll do all the rest.  Kids will have a blast playing snaky games, making buggy snacks, getting up close and personal with some of Bug Zoo’s most popular critters.  For FSK (Very Special Kids) only ages 5-8 years old. Just $25 SBG for members/ $30 for nonmembers. Preregistration required.

Wildflower Walks – Bugs, Butterflies & Blooms

“Bugs, Butterflies & Blooms” led by Wood River Valley’s favorite naturalist Ann Christensen and local plant expert Cynthia Langlois. Identify insects and wildflowers and learn about their interactions.

Destination:  TBD, check back for updates

Difficulty: Easy

Meeting Time & Location: Meet at 9:00 AM sharp at Sawtooth Botanical Garden (Highway 75 and Gimlet Rd., 3 miles south of Ketchum)

Return Time: by 2:00 PM

Please note, walks will happen rain or shine. Bring appropriate outerware, sturdy walking shoes, water, sunscreen, hat and lunch.   This walk is family friendly for children age 7 years and older accompanied by an adult. Call if you have questions. But please leave Fido at home.
