Design Your Garden for Water Conservation

March 30 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

| $20 - $25

water-conservation-drip-line

During this 2 hour design workshop, participants will learn about the importance of water conservation, impact of state water adjudication on homeowners and municipalities and ways to address the challenges through savvy garden design. Instructor Kathy Noble, L.A., will give a brief overview of xeriscape and permaculture design approaches to conservation of resources.  Then, starting from the ground up, participants will learn basic soil types, appropriate plant selection and their effect on a homeowner’s water use. Noble will demonstrate a variety of drip irrigation designs, suggest useful tools and clocks, and discuss weather considerations and the importance of mulching. She’ll also cover ways to assess infiltration rates and how to adapt existing irrigation systems (or lack of a system) by using temporary hose bibs to deliver water via drip lines to an area of a garden.

This class is the second in a 2-part series in garden design.  Part One, “Design Your Garden for Year Round Color” will be held March 17 from 6:30-8:30 PM.  You may sign up for both Part 1 and 2 for a reduced rate:  $35 for SBG members/$45 for nonmembers.

Day/Time: March 30, 2017; 6:30-8:30 PM

Cost: $20 for SBG members/$25 for nonmembers

Instructor: Kathy Noble received her Landscape Architecture degree from the University of Idaho. She has lived in the Wood River Valley for 40 years and for 25 years owned Sun Valley Florist. She designs, installs and maintains gardens throughout the Valley and is now the Gardens and Facilities Manager at the Sawtooth Botanical Garden.
